Do you wish you were a more confident writer?

In the words of John Steinbeck...

"To start a story still scares me to death. I will go so far as to say that the writer who is not scared is happily unaware of the remote and tantalizing majesty of the medium."

Come join Christian Writers of the West where we help and encourage each other in our writing journeys. Among our members, you'll find writers of romance, young adult, children’s, historical, western, suspense, and speculative fiction. We study the craft of writing at our meetings, which have featured such speakers as Literary Agent Steve Laube, and authors Colleen Coble, Susan Meissner, C.S. Lakin, Stacy Connelly, Carolyn Zane, Tosca Lee, Pamela Tracy, and more.  We also have informal get-togethers where we may brainstorm, critique, or workshop our work in process. Join us. We need each other!

January 25th, 2014 - Sizzling Scenes: Creating Unforgettable Scenes that Really Cook

CWOW is hosting their annual Writer's Workshop with special guest speaker C.S. Lakin, novelist and writing coach, who divides her time between developing new book ideas and helping writers polish theirs. C.S Lakin is the author of twelve novels – six contemporary novels and six in the fantasy/sci-fi genre.

This lighthearted workshop fills a need for writers of all levels to explore the various ways scenes can be constructed and the elements needed to make a scene sizzle. Good writers are like good cooks—using a variety of ingredients and spices, simmering until boiling, and leaving a surprise twist or lingering aftertaste to keep the reader wanting to come back to the table for seconds. We will look at the three major components of a scene—the beginning, middle, and end, and evaluate what does and doesn't work using scenes from best selling novels. Bon Appetite!

Join us for this inspiring workshop to kick off your 2014 year of writing.
